Macbeth (Folger Shakespeare Library)
The "Macbeth" edition from the Folger Shakespeare Library has received a positive reception among customers, particularly for its dual format that combines a well-annotated text with an engaging DVD of a theatrical production. Many users appreciate the larger page size that allows for note-taking and highlighting without bleed-through. The insightful annotations and illustrations are deemed useful, especially for students or those unfamiliar with Shakespeare's language. Educators have found this edition particularly suitable for teaching, as it aligns page numbers with the commonly used Folger edition in schools, making it seamless for in-class reference. The accompanying DVD, showcasing a stage production directed by Aaron Posner and Teller, has been highlighted for its dynamic presentation that keeps audiences engaged. The production's incorporation of special features like stage combat and magic, along with its energetic performances, captures the essence of Macbeth as a play and enhances the viewing experience. However, some reviewers noted that while enjoyable, the DVD does take creative liberties with the text, which might be a concern for strict purists. Despite this, many customers believe that the changes generally help to modernize the play and make it more accessible to contemporary audiences, particularly students. In summary, this Folger edition of "Macbeth" serves as a valuable resource for both personal exploration and educational settings. It successfully balances readability and thorough annotations with a vibrant visual representation of the play. **
